DRIP DROP
review

When I got to the Nile at 10:30, I didn't see too many people waiting in line so, I assumed it was going to be a dud party. But, when I got inside, I realized I was very wrong. The place was packed wall to wall. Happy, smiling faces... friendly faces... sweaty faces! Boy was it hot in there! Hows about a little AC? I went to the basement a couple of times just to appreciate coming back upstairs. I lost a few pounds just standing around that night. But, we all had loads of fun despite the heat.

The vibe was awesome! Everyone was relaxed and cheerful. There were a few problems with the sound system but, it didn't matter. This was basically a great big chill party, complete with a massage table and the great "Box" from Vision. I spent almost all of my time in the main room where Markus Schulz, Michael, Jae Van, Paul-E, Rex Ettleman and CL McSpadden played my kind of music: trance, hard trance and progressive trance. I swear, if there is ever a kind of music called country trance I'd probably listen to it too!

Despite all the controversy surrounding the Nile, this place can still pack them in. Some people actually like the Nile. I still like it because it was at the Nile where I was first introduced to the Rave culture. I've heard all sorts of stories and dramas in the scene, almost enough to fill an entire issue of the National Inquirer. But, the scene is kept alive by the people who love the music not the ones who love to gossip. The bottom line is no matter when or where, if you spin it... they will come;)

The party was awesome! the vibe was great and so was the music!! despite my HORRIBLE K hole in the beginning, i was able to dance by 3:00. the people where the best, i felt a lot more unity here than at lots of recent parties. hope they continue to be this great!

I must say Drip Drop was an amazing party!! It all started with that awesome flyer, nothing builds up the excitement for a party like a kick ass flyer. For some reason all the events where people are sweating their asses off always seem to kick ass!!

Finally, I would have to say that the rave scene was in a small slump about a year ago and has since pulled out of it for one reason...TRANCE!!! Nothing can build a vibe like Trance can, and it's by far the best dancing music there is! No style of music can compete, Happy Hardcore has a very nice vibe to it, and House, well everyone knows that House vibe, but House is too slow and Happy Hardcore is too fast! Let the Trance roll!!! Thank you Drop & Roll Productions!!!

I really did'nt enjoy this party, I walked in and got embraced by people who where all E'd out and sweaty. This would have been kewl if everyone and thier mothers where not all druged out. I ended up leaving the party early because I got tired of K'd and/or E'd out tweakers fucking with me. The all Local thing also did it for me I here these guys every week.

I'm gonna go back! I couldn't find the breakdancers/sk8rs that told me about the place and the other one apparently went on a 3-day drunk after we taped (he overtrained and sk8ed poorly) so I went alone! It's only a couple of blocks away from the amphitheatre in Mesa so I went to a coffee shop first and built up my courage with double mochas and a ham, egg and cheese croissant with a pasta salad (odd combination). Everyone at the coffee shop told me not to go (the singer called it a "Clusterfuck"--which was like waving a blood-red bedsheet in front of a bull), and the counterboy said that there were a lot of drugs there, so he'd never gone. I circled a few times and decided to chance it. The bouncer asked what the hell I was doing there, so I whipped out the pic of the sk8rs and said that I was meeting them there. He said they were prolly in the basement part and took my money ($15--I think the regular price is $10). The ticket taker asked if I was looking for chicks and I showed him the pic and told him they were break dancers. He suggested that I stay upstairs and look for a big hole in the crowd--that would be a breakdance.

The place was about 130 degrees (no exaggeration) and packed solid. I saw no holes and went downstairs (one 3' wide stairway), realizing that if there were a fire (which often happens) I would die down there--it would take the better part of an hour to get to an exit in that crowd. At the bottom I noticed another stairway filled with sitting teens, leading up from the same 3' square landing to the alley. The moment I stepped into the room, a friendly, conservatively dressed (Levi jacket and pants) boy shook my hand and said I looked lonely--was I looking for friend? Ignoring the invitation, I said that actually I was looking for two friends, James and Kris--did he know them? He said no, and retreated into the shadows. There were slumber parties in each of the corners (this was about 1 AM--I'd stayed at the coffee place until closing time first) and gathered around a huge fan/blower. This is apparently the Gay-safe zone, but there were many straight couples coupling also. One guy came up to me and asked if I was "Rolling". Not knowing if he was asking to buy a joint, or what, I replied that I wasn't but that I hoped to Rock. He left very confused.

Not knowing if he was asking to buy a joint, or what, I replied that I wasn't but that I hoped to Rock. He left very confused.

A little blond musclepup flowerchild who was possibly on XTC was rubbing a (I think) miniature electric fan (it looked like a CB mic with a coiled cord to a battery pack) all over his body very sensuously and going around the room gently rubbing it all over chosen guys. I wasn't chosen, and when I asked what it was he said "nothing" and darted off. Pity--he was like a cat on catnip--I coulda related. Perhaps my Hawaiian shirt put him off. I was standing under a blacklight and was as inconspicuous as an explosion in a neon factory. I figured out L8r that they were a team--if I had been "rolling" he would have chosen me too. At least I hadn't whipped out my flash camera yet! There was a small stage and 3 guys were producing techno-musick. Few peeps danced. Convinced that the sk8rs were not down there and that no one else looked like they were about to break, I made my way back up the stairs.

At the top was another big fan/blower, a large slumber group, a TV playing an "artvid" of writhing (clothed) bodies, and the massage table. Climbing the stairs and re-entering the 130 degree, sweaty room, I more or less collapsed into the clusterfuck, closed my eyes and fleetingly thought that I may be getting a bit old for this sort of thing. To cries of "Are you OK, dude?" I opened my eyes eventually and replied that I was fine now, on the floor, in front of the fan. They smiled and handed me a pacifier dipped in some gooey blue/green stuff--which I declined. The "artfilm" really sucked (they need a *DANVID*), so I got up and found a break hole). The black dudes were, hands down, the best. Hard to see and photograph in the dark--I had to shoot blind.

There was another flowerchild type upstairs. A paperboy type who was grabbing peeps faces and blowing into them through a Vicks inhaler tube, with a nod of permission. Both flowerchildren reminded me a Lot of Aaron--he felt the need to spread love evenly through a crowd. I asked the guy next to me what that was all about and he said it was just Vicks, and it causes the eyes to do weird things. He was very sensual about it and had a missionary's zeal. Our eyes met and I nodded. He came over and asked me if I was Rolling. I said I didn't know, and he said are you on XTC? I said no, so he began. This is all screamed, of course, because the techno-musick was full volume and I had spent the night next to the main speaker stack, as usual. He told me to take off my glasses and started blowing at my nose and mouth and chin, started rubbing my earlobes, blew across my forehead (a major project) and then gently into each eye. It was very sweet, but I experienced nothing psychedelic. He ends it with a hug--well worth the price of admission. I also took a swig off of a water bottle that one of the gurl dancers was using, but it was just water, I think. Other kids were doing some sort of cat tranquilizer. Since I was an hour from home (Sun City), I decided to leave early (at 5 AM)--it goes on until 8AM. Next time I'm gonna bring some toys and a video.

DripDRop was a sick ass party. The vibe was great and everyone looked like they were haveing the time of there life. My favorite part of the night is when MARCUS came on, boy did he RIP SHIT UP!!!!!. I would have to agree with you on the AC cause those of us who were dancing our asses off were ready to rip our clothes off and run around naked. well Thats about it. keep our scene alive and remember what its about.

CHRISTINA

Drip Drop was a pretty damn good party if you set aside a few things like the heat, location and not enough room to turn around. Overall the vibe was great and so were the people. I have to hand it to Schultz and McSpadden for their set's, GREAT SPINNING!!!

I was surprised that there weren't that many people in the basement though, but I did go down several times to give props to the Dj's that were spinning there. See all you kids' at Kaboom and/or Caffine Tour if I have the time to make it back from tucson in time to get there... lol

I thought DRIP DROP was a very Happ-E party. I brought three first time ravers and they were a little iffy about coming to the scene, I kept telling them they'd love it. But it took the atmosohere and open arms of the ravers that made them have a great time. The vibe at this party was incredible, although I had specualtion at first becuase it was at the Nile, the part ended up turning out to be pretty tight. We had a night filled with good music, lot's of dancing and plenty of candy. :)

Drip drop brought the vibe back. The nile once agian has brought us a kick ass time. I Know that we all hate the nile! Hell I do too but this time i got to hand it to them, it was a nice place for this party. Well not only was the musik good MARCUS!!!! But the vibe was so unbelivible it was the first time in months were everyone was happy. Yes it has been along time too since the crowd was as pumped as it was, thanks marcus. Also as hot as it was everyone at least tried to dance!! keep the vibe alive!!!

this is dj evildeeva- see there are no reviews about my set which is cool but is it because my musik is too dark for yall ??? for some reason i have a HUUUUUUUGE following of candy ravers-is it because im a female and they wouldnt care if i was playing ambient jazz-but as long as im female its all good right? well i just want to say that ill rock any style ego free and being female doesnt mean im the shit-it just means im a rarity-check the steez before obsessing over it- i love all my fans and i know the true support when i see it-i guess my style isnt that "happy" for some-but who cares-DARKSTEPAHZ FOREVA

Dj AriEL (a.k.a. Dj 5375)

Drip Drop was my first rave because I went to go see the Jerk Krew spin but I mainly went to see Kaotic. Now because of that, I go to parties all the time, but I would still have to say that was my favorit rave.

Stephen

I had sex with DJ Nihm's girlfriend at Drip Drop and he did'nt even do anything about it. Why don't you do anything Denny? And Drip Drop was a kick ass rave.
