EARTH DANCE '99
review

Well, it might not have been as great and wonderful as we all hoped it would be (specially considering the cause) but, it was still a good party. I think the only thing that contributed to the low turnout was the curfew law. Just goes to show that raves are better when they're underground, way out there in the middle of the desert. If you want true freedom you'll have to get away from civilization. I'd take a few puffs of dust over the Phoenix PD any time. Damn, those DTS parties spoiled the shit outta me;)

We got there around 11 pm. I was told Substation performed an awesome set. Rex and Vortex spun pretty decent sets but my favorites were Gel and Tigger. Ryce and Rhee also spun a well received duo on the main stage. I missed CL's set but I was told later that it was cut short when they shut it down at 5 am.

I thought there were too many jewelry and candy booths and not enough refreshments. Can we pass a law that will restrict the sale of tiny bottled waters to only a dollar? I think if you want to make money you should do it with fancier stuff like sodas, juices or smart drinks. Monopolizing on people's thirst and the need to avoid dehydration is NOT cool! Of course, that's just my opinion:)

I thought the giant slides were very cool. The light show and the video screens were also interesting. I just thought the video screens were dormant for too long. They must have had some problems back there because there was a single slide behind the main stage for most of the night.

I think we should make an extra effort to see what it takes to throw desert parties like "Nocturnal Wonderland" or "Golden". If we can't come to an agreement with the city officials we should take our chances and go underground. Giving up to conformity and throwing a "proper" rave in the city is not what this subculture is all about. Might as well go to a club! I know Gruv-E did its best given the circumstances and provided us with the best entertainment available last Saturday night. But, raves are not for cops or Martha Stewart. Raves are for free people with souls!

Werd my peoples!

Me and my friends arrived around 12:30, the party seemed to be going pretty good. I wasnt in love with the music at first, but it really started to pick up with a good hardcore set around 2am. I was counting the minutes until CL's set at 3:30, and boy he did not dissapoint. He played one of the most rippin, crowd movin sets I had seen in a long time. He actually did get to finish his set, he had just stepped away from the turntables, and 20 minutes later, at 5:20 am, th bad ass boys in blue came to bust up our party.

Overall it was a pretty good party, missed some of the younger candy-kids though. But met some cool ass people. Not a desert party, but worth the time and money.

Hmmmm, now if i can only keep myself mellow until Wiggle on the 29th....

=)

Earthdance was a good party but nothing like I expected. I thought that if they made a HUGE deal about all the Earthdance parties untiting as one they should have had at least tv's or pictures that showed all the ravers in other countries coming together to help Tibet. The location...can't say much...it was a corner of a parking lot. But...there was one good thing about the party,( or should I say two??) RYCE & RHEE!!!! First time I saw or herd of eather dj & they are BAD ASS!!!! Ramy...Nice web page!!! :o)

Shelli :o)

It is just my opinion but I think that this party should have been out in the desert. I'm sorry but "earth" was not originated in a parking lot! P.L.U.R.

Lets see here. Well, great party. Props given to those who set up and put this thing together. Although I know the reason why the party was in a parking lot, I wish they could have found something better. Me and my friends got there around 8:30 and damn, how dull it was. At first I was upset because of that whole 18 and younger thing, gotta leave at 12 but the lady in the front didnt give a hoot and gave me a red bracelet anyways. Well, I noticed one thing. No offense to Phoenix kids, but no one dances ! Or there are hardly any that do dance. I met alot of awesome ass kids up there though some of the candy kids running around were alittle... scary. No offense. I have to admit the music kicked some phat ass and was dope as hell, Kevin Brown was one of my favs of the night. I hung around the Box most of the night and did go down the slide a few times. So all in all it was a great night concidering I met a bunch of Phoenix boys and girls that were super cool to me. Though they dissed on Tucson alot, I didnt take offense. And another thing, I just want to say whats up to Ej, Merlin ! Justin and Brent at Swell, and of course cutie boy Tj ! Another whats up to Sean cause he made me laugh so much ! And to all the Tucson kids that went out there ! Keep it real kids ! *MWAH*

me and my friends from alb nm came to phoenix for earth dance 99. it was a differnt earthdance than 1998. in 1998 earthdance was my first phoenix rave and it was awesome. i moved back to albuquerque, nm in 1999. my best friends and i were premoting INTENCITY a albuquerque rave that feartued Frankie Bones and great local talent..including dj essex and reverend mittion.....anyways the point was the weird curfue thing and the vibe was totally different than earth dance 1998..... i really expected to see a bigger turn out and more of a postive vibe for the tibetian people. but phoenix sceen rocks but this one could have been put together better.....
